Writing Challenge Day 21

Posted on Posted in Reader Interest, Uncategorized, Writing challenge

I had a pretty good day today considering the amount of non-writing obligations that I had to do.

We’re in the process of trying to figure out how to expand the publishing company that I helped start.  There has been a bit of back and forth about what kind of publisher we should become, whether we will begin accepting submissions from other authors or if we’re going to keep everything as a true indie-press.  I can see good and bad points on each side of the equation, so I’m trying not to make myself too crazy with thinking aobut it.

More pressing to me, is I’m getting ready to take steps that I really don’t know how to do.  I’ve never bee a marketer before, but in this world of publishing, you’ve got to find ways to do that.  So far, I haven’t pushed any of my books. I’ve just put them up on the various electronic distributors and put my novels (most of them) into print.  But over the past year, I’ve come up with several more titles, and I realized today, that I was very close to having 20 different titles.  Granted, some of these are short stories, but they still count.

I figure 20 titles gives me a decent back list, so it’s time for me to begin pushing the books and trying to make my way.

Some things that I am considering are improving this website.  The content that I’ve been posting on this blog hasn’t been too terrific, but I’m enjoying the challenge.  I’m hoping that by blogging about the good, the bad and the outrageously ugly that I encounter with my writing, I may help to inspire someone else.  I am also planning to begin a podcast in February to March that will be dedicated to the Romantic-Suspense genre.  I’m in the planning stages of that now, and we’ll keep you posted.

Despite everything here, and the fact that today is my Spouse’s birthday, I still managed to put in a few hours after everyone else had gone to bed and wrote over 2000 words.

At the beginning of this challenge, I said that in order for me to meet the goal I would need to write average about 2083 words per day to make it.  Being that today is the 21st, that would mean that I should be around 43,743 words.  The total today is a touch over 38,000, so I’m a bit behind. But I’m not worried about it for two reasons.  First, I know from experience, that I’ll hit a point in this book, and it will take off, and I’ll end up racing to the end.  And second, (and maybe even more important) I’m still writing new words most days.  And making these posts is definitely helping to get me motivated.  I don’t want to fall short in front of everybody.

I’m not going to say that I’m not going to be bummed if I don’t make my year end goal. But, hey, it’s still early in the year and as long as I keep making progress, I’ll get to the end of those 760,000 words.

Keep Writing,

~Christine
