Writing Challenge Day 22

Posted on Posted in Reader Interest, Uncategorized, Writing challenge, Writing Techniques

It was a pretty busy day, so I didn’t get too much work done on my writing challenge tonight.  I realized that I had never put any of the recent books up on the site, so I spent a bit of time getting them caught up.  I’ve got a few other things I want to do to this site over the next few days to get it into real form.  Keep watching, the pages will be looking good (hopefully) very soon.

Several family members have been giving me little pokes over the past few years with the way that I’ve been running my writing business.  By concentrating on writing fiction, it does limit the way that you can create cash super quick, unless you’re pushing the heck out of a title.  In my mind, it doesn’t make any sense to push a book unless there is something to back it up.  So, for the past few years, I’ve been writing, on average, 4 books per year but I’ve done nothing to promote them.  With the completion of Misappropriated Means, I now have a total of twelve novels (okay, 8 novels, 3 novellas and 2 major collections) that are available.  When I add in my short stories I’m getting really close to 20 titles. It’s time to start promoting.

My thought was to do a very simple push to readers and bookstores.  I’ve started by asking for readers to review Misappropriated Means (if you would like to be a reader, check out the home page for the link to sign up).  The print version of the book will be set by Monday, and I will be getting the advanced reader copies by early February.  I’m going to try to get a few reviews from the local newspapers.  And, by the mid point of February, I’ll be sending out some flyers to a few selected independent bookstores.

Now, the interesting thing that has happened over the past two days.  I’ve already heard back from a few of the reviewers.  They seem to really like the book, and the upside is I’ve seen a slight uptick in book sales.  May it continue.

As I stated above, with everything that was going on today (several meetings and general running around) I did two very short sessions on Dealer’s Choice, that equaled 1416 words.  As I pointed out yesterday, it may not be a huge number, but everyday gets me closer to the end goal of my personal writing challenge.  Tomorrow should be a better day for writing.  My daughter has a few appointments which will pull me from the dungeon.  However, armed with my iPad and wireless keyboard, I’ll spend the time I’m waiting for her writing.  It will put a few extra sessions into my day.

Keep Writing,

~Christine
